Hague Court hearings on 2008 South Ossetia events
The International Court of Justice in The Hague is getting down to week-long hearings on the Russian-Georgian dispute over the events in South Ossetia in August 2008.
Georgia has filed a suit, accusing Russia of a breach of the 1965 International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
Russia claims that the August 2008 events do not fall under the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice and that the Convention is not applicable to the situation in question.
The hearings on the issue were already held in The Hague in September 2008 at the request of Georgia. The Court ruled then that neither party’s case was proven.
