Jailed Iranian dies in prison in Azerbaijan
A jailed Iranian has died in a prison in Azerbaijan, local media reported citing the prosecutors’ office of Garadag region of the country.
The death of the prisoner was registered in the colony number 13 of the Prison Service of the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan. Iranian citizen Gulamguseyn Abdulrazag, who was sentenced to six years of imprisonment three years ago by the ruling of the Court on Serious Crimes, died after a heart attack, according to notification.
However, there are numerous cases of death in prisons of Azerbaijan; prisoners very often even don’t survive until the hearings. Among the most frequent reasons of deaths in prisons, Azerbaijani officials determine “due to illness” or “suicide.”
For example, this year on August 26, a body of a dead suspected person, Akif Fatullayev, was found in isolation room. Officials said that he had committed suicide. Early in August another prisoner, 41-year-old Alim Ismailov, killed himself through hanging.
