Georgian classes at the expense of Armenian classes in Javakhk
“In Georgia, de jure there are not Armenian schools; however, every effort is made to preserve the national school,” told media co-chair of Virq Party David Rstakian who referred to the complicated situation in sphere of education in Armenia-populated Javakhk of Georgia.
David Rstakian said that schools are providing Georgian language classes at the expense of Armenian language classes.
“Before now, Armenian language classes at the elementary school were 8 hours, and 3 more hours were allotted for Georgian language. However, now the classes are balanced. The schoolteaching has been becoming bilingual at the expense of Armenian language, and the school de facto turns into Georgian,” said Rstakian.
He pointed that Georgian authorities have an aim to Georgianize the Armenians of Javakhk, but not teach them speaking Georgian.
“The civil authorities in Javakhk don’t deal with problems of the Armenians. The national security is dealing with these issues,” stressed Rstakian.
