S. Sargsyan: Even bad peace is better than war
“Even a bad peace is better than war. If there are negotiations, there is also an opportunity to achieve final results. The position of the Armenian party – Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh, is clear. It is based on supremacy of international law. Karabakh was joined with Azerbaijan in 1921 by the Communist Party decision. The Nagorno Karabakh people never agreed to that decision. The Karabakh movement started in 1988, then Nagorno Karabakh got unilateral autonomy through a referendum,” President Serzh Sargsyan said in his interview to the Profile Magazine.
“The ruling of the International Court of Justice on Kosovo, according to which unilateral proclamation of independence does not contradict to international law, put things right. Therefore at the OSCE session in Almaty it was announced that the three principles (non-use of force or threat of force, territorial integrity, and self-determination of peoples), on the basis of which we hold the talks, are equal,” he said.
“We hope for a final fair solution. If we thought there was no solution, it would be very difficult for us and first of all for Nagorno Karabakh people to live,” Serzh Sargsyan concluded.
