Iranian, Syrian presidents meet in Damascus
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who is on official visit to Syria has met with his Syrian counterpart and close ally Bashar al-Assad in Damascus.
Parties discussed a range of regional and international issues, local media reported. Among highlights was the issue of Meddle East talks and peace deal between Palestine and Israel. Iran is openly protesting the Israeli-Palestinian relations under the auspices of the United States. Syrian leader, in his turn, showed a moderate approach towards peace talks in Washington.
The two leaders also discussed crisis in Iraq and the Iranian nuclear program. Reportedly, Iran and Syria have concerns that political games in Iraq after withdrawal of the most of American troops will lead to dangerous developments.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s visit to Syria will be followed by a trip to the United States and Algeria. In New York Iranian leader will deliver a speech at the UN General Assembly.
