F. Sadykhov: Russia, U.S. do not wish Azerbaijan’s strengthening
Fikret Sadykhov, a professor at Baku’s Western University commented upon the statement of Defense Ministers of U.S. and Russia Robert Gates and Anatoly Serdyukov on the necessity of efforts to prevent military incidents in the Karabakh conflict zone.
According to ARCHAngel news, Sadykhov said that superpowers and international organizations do not want another seat of war to appear in Nagorno Karabakh. In expert’s opinion, superpowers do not want resolution of Karabakh problem and strengthening of Azerbaijan.
“And the statements of U.S. and Russian Defense Ministers testify to it,” Sadykhov said.
According to the expert, from the very first day of assumption of chairmanship in OSCE Minsk Group Russia and U.S. set before themselves the task not to allow resumption of war. They had their own interests – implementation of energy projects, creation of military bases, use of their presence in the region against Iran.
Sadykhov considers that presently, Russia has serious interests in the region. U.S. has energy and other projects in the South Caucasus. Therefore positions of Russia and U.S. on the Nagorno Karabakh issue coincide. The new agreement between Moscow and Yerevan on extension of the Gyumri military base term was also coordinated with U.S. It is a joint signal of Moscow and Washington to Baku for the latter not to even think of liberating its territories through military operations.
