A woman executed in Virginia despite protests
Teresa Lewis became the first woman in Virginia who was executed in the past 100 years. Teresa died early Friday after being given a lethal injection at the Greensville correctional centre.
The 41-year-old Teresa Lewis was convicted of plotting to kill her husband, Julian Lewis, and her stepson, Charles Lewis. She persuaded two men to carry out the murders in return for sex and money. The murder was carried out on Mischief Night, the day before Halloween in October 2002. Lewis left the back door of her home unlocked to allow Shallenberg and Fuller to enter, armed with shotguns, according to court files. The two men received life sentences.
"I just want Kathy to know that I love you, and I'm very sorry," Lewis said in her last words to apologise to Kathy Clifton, the daughter and sister of her victims before the drugs were pumped into her arms. She was pronounced dead at 9:13 p.m.
