Indonesia train crashes kill dozens
More than 40 people were killed and scores injured in two train crashes in Indonesia on Saturday, RIA Novosti reported citing local media.
The first accident occurred in Central Java province at around 03:00 a.m. local time, when a train from the capital Jakarta rammed into a stationary train at Petarukan station, killing at least 33 people and injuring over 40 others. Local TV channels say at least 43 people were killed.
It is feared the death toll may rise as many of the injured are in a critical condition.
A signaling error was the most likely cause of the accident, officials say.
A second crash occurred near the city of Solo just four hours later, leaving one person dead and injuring five others.
