Tbilisi has not ordered to close Verin Lars checkpoint
The Georgian leadership has not ordered to close the Verin Lars (Upper Lars) checkpoint, Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze told a joint press conference with Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan.
The Verin Lars checkpoint was closed and opened for several times over the past ten days which resulted in queues.
Minister Nalbandyan said that he has today discussed the issue with his Georgian counterpart. According to the Minister, the Georgian party gave explanations assuring that the checkpoint is closed due to technical problems and will be reopened in the coming hours.
In return, Grigol Vashadze said that he has already phoned to Tbilisi in this connection.
“Now I can say that the Verin Lars functions completely. Tbilisi has not ordered to close the checkpoint. If there were technical problems, we would have learnt it immediately. The checkpoint is open, soon I will be pleased to inform you that the first car has already crossed the border,” Vashadze stated.
