Georgia promises to restore Armenian language classes at schools
Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Dimitri Shashkini met with his Armenian counterpart Armen Ashotyan on October 16 in Yerevan.
The Ministers signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between Ministries of Education and Science of Armenia and Georgia.
According to D. Shashkini, Armenian schools of Georgia face many problems.
“Armenian schools play an important role in Georgia’s educational system, and we do our utmost to develop the schools. True, the number of Armenian language classes has been temporarily reduced for the present, but I stress that it is temporary. Now the number of Armenian classes is equal to Georgian classes. The Ministry has already approved the educational program for 2011 envisaging to increase number of classes of Armenian and Georgian,” Shashkini told reporters.
In return, Minister Ashotyan said that the problem has been discussed in Armenia and Georgia. He thanked the Georgian party for understanding towards the problem.
