Chinese coal mine blast kills 20
A coal mine blast has killed 20 and trapped more than 30 workers underground in a central region of China, RIA Novosti reported citing state-run Xinhua News Agency.
The blast happened Saturday morning in Henan province.
The gas level inside the mine was 40 percent, far higher than the normal level of .8 to 1 percent.
Xinhua cited mine officials in Yuzhou city as saying the blast happened in a pit owned by Pingyu Coal & Electric Company Limited.
China’s mining industry is the most dangerous in the world. More than 2,600 people were killed in mining accidents last year.
