French MPs: Turkey is still far away from entering EU
MPs from the Union for a Popular Movement French ruling party try to stop the financing of “endless” process of Turkey’s European integration, newsland.ru reported. French MPs believe Turkey is still far away from entering EU. They demanded from French government to suspend country’s participation in financing Turkey’s European integration.
The French budget allocations for 2011 amount to over EUR 130m which aim at financing projects of Turkish society’s democratization and development of the so-called cultural dialogue. The European Union will allocate nearly EUR 700m next year for Turkey’s European integration, and the total assistance by 2013 will amount to over EUR 2bn.
The European Commission criticized French parliamentarians stating that the budget for 2011 is already approved. In return, Turkish Business Association said the funds allocated by EU have no special significance for Turkey.
