Deadly cholera epidemic in Haiti kills 138
A cholera epidemic in northern Haiti has claimed 138 lives and infected 1,500 people over the past few days, the Haitian Medical Association said.
“According to the results of the analysis carried out in the laboratory it is cholera,” association president Claude Surena said, adding a government statement on the health crisis is imminent.
The outbreak has so far not hit the capital, Port-au-Prince, vesti.ru reported.
According to RIA-Novosti, Health Minister of Haiti Gabriel Timote said 600 infected people are hospitalized. The first cholera case was registered last Tuesday.
