Launched the RA Presidents visit to Shirak region
Today President Serzh Sargsyan left for a working visit to Shirak region. The Head of the country visited the sugar factory of Akhuryan, and got acquainted with the work implemented and the programs.
In 2006 the Shirak on the territory of former Arevik base in region Akhuryan the construction of the sugar factory began. It is planned to recycle both the imported semifinished product and the cultivated beet. Till today, around 102 million dollar investment has been made.
This year the owner of the sugar factory "LusAstgh Sugar” Ltd rented about 50 hectares of land and sow sugar beet.
The factory will work for 10 months and every year will be repaired for 2 months.
If the factory works with full capacity it will produce 220 thousand tons of white sugar, taking also into account that sugar production will reach its full capacity in 4-5 years. It is assumed that in the coming years the local raw materials will be enough for only 8-9 tons sugar production.
As a result of the operation of the factory have been formed about 700 thousand jobs with 150 monthly average salary, and if the cultivated sugar will reach 300 tons of more than about 20 thousand people will be employed.
It should be noted that sugar beet has been cultivated up to the earthquake in 1988. The maximum sowing area made 4,589 hectares before the earthquake, while the highest average yield was 38.9 tons ha. The largest quantity of the local production of sugar at the time made 28.3 thousand tons. Beet cultivation was specific mainly for Akhuryan and Spitak regions.
In the frameworks of the working visit the RA President will also visit Gyumri to participate on the events dedicated to the fest of the city.
