Situation on Korean Peninsula: international response
U.S. President Barack Obama stated his country confirms its commitment to protect South Korea against North Korea attacks. According to BBC, Obama said instead of making suppositions he will consider the situation with South Korean President Lee Myung-bak.
United Nations Command in South Korea demands to launch negotiations with North Korean authorities and representatives of army to ease tension on the Korean Peninsula.
Japan is also concerned over the situation. According to RIA Novosti, Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan expressed support for Seoul. He called on China, which has much influence on DPRK, for joint measures against it.
