After all this, how will Aliyev appear in Astana?
Most of WikiLeaks sensations relate to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s scandalous expressions and commentaries which not only unmask Aliyev but also put him in an awkward position.
Particularly, many experts believe Aliyev will be in a very unfavorable situation in Astana which will be hosting OSCE summit. In particular, Aliyev told Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Bill Burns that Armenia’s international isolation is needed for settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict; he expressed discontent with Minsk Group Co-chairs with rude expressions.
Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Feridun Siniroglu told Bill Burns that Aliyev hinders the resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and Armenian-Turkish rapprochement.
Lastly, Aliyev said that he considers Medvedev "a modern, new-generation intellectual," surrounded by people whom he does not control. He said that he has personally witnessed Medvedev taking decisions that then required further approval before they were implemented. He added, "Many high-ranking officials don't recognize (Medvedev) as a leader."
