UN, OSCE support peaceful resolution of protracted conflicts
Kazakhstan's Secretary of State and Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev addressing OSCE summit in Astana expressed cautious optimism about resolution of protracted conflicts. Particularly, touching upon the situation triggered by the tragic events in Kyrgyzstan, Saudabayev said that it once again confirmed “demand for OSCE which will keep supporting stability and stable development of that country,” Asyor.am correspondent reports.
“We hope updated Vienna Document 1999 will be confirmed next year,” Saudabayev said.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon speaking at the summit, in return, said that UN is ready to support OSCE in peaceful resolution of protracted conflicts.
Ban Ki-moon stressed that conflicts should be resolved “through negotiations.”
“All those who live in those regions fairly expect from us resolution of those issues,” Ban Ki-moon said.
