Armenian-Turkish Protocols can be again put on agenda in 2011
Turkey stays sensitive about the Armenian Genocide, Turkologist Artak Shakaryan told a news conference in Yerevan. He has lately attended a conference on Armenian-Turkish relations in Ankara.
According to Shakaryan, Turkey links Armenian-Turkish rapprochement with Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, meanwhile “it understands that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev does not seek Armenian-Azerbaijani rapprochement, since rapprochement is not in Azerbaijan’s interests.”
The speaker noted the parliamentary elections to be held in 2011 in Turkey can greatly influence Armenian-Turkish relations. Meanwhile he thinks the Armenian-Turkish Protocols can be again put on the agenda in 2011.
As to Turkey’s intention to reopen the Saint Kirakos Armenian church in Diarbekir, the expert said that the reopening ceremony will be a "magnificent show" like the show of Aghtamar.
