Iran releases Sakineh Ashtiani
Antilapidación Committee today announced the release of Sakineh Ashtiani Mohammadi, the Iranian sentenced to death by stoning, her son and her lawyer, AFP reports citing Anti-Stoning Committee.
On 23 November, a senior official said the Iranian regime that had opened the door to the commutation of Ashtiani, accused of adultery. The woman was initially sentenced to be stoned, but the execution was put on hold for review her case because of the campaign that Western countries and human rights organizations launched against the sentence.
Sakineh's son, Sajjad Ghaderzadeh, and her lawyer Houtan Kian Javid, were arrested in early October with two German journalists that interviewed after months of campaigning to free his mother. Reporters have also been released, according to the Committee.
Iranian sources have reported that Sakineh and her son have been released on bail, but the amount is unknown.
