Despouy: Recognition of Genocide to help establish regional peace
Recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the international community will help establish regional peace, scholar Leandro Despouy, a human rights advocate and scholar from Argentina, declared at the International Conference entitled “The Crime of Genocide: Prevention, Condemnation and Elimination of Consequences” in Yerevan.
“Besides establishment of regional peace, recognition of the Genocide by the international community will prepare the ground for settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, taking into consideration Azerbaijan’s threats,” L. Despouy said.
L. Despouy is co-author of the Armenian Genocide Resolution adopted by the United Nations.
According to Yves Ternon, a scholar from France, the Armenian Genocide Convention adopted by the United Nations in 1948 helped give a legal assessment not only to the Holocaust but to genocides in Rwanda, Cambodia, Darfur.
The conference hosts renowned scholars from France, Argentina, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, Greece, Ireland, Hungary, U.S., Canada, Egypt, Japan.
