S. Sargsyan: Concealing fault is committing new crime
“The bitter lessons of history have remained as bitter memories in the history of the humanity. Unfortunately, genocide denial still takes place in the world,” President Serzh Sargsyan said addressing the opening of the International Conference entitled “The Crime of Genocide: Prevention, Condemnation and Elimination of Consequences” in Yerevan.
According to the President, the lack of adequate mechanisms for genocide prevention or their imperfection makes humanity constantly face threat of recurrence of new genocides.
“Prevention and condemnation of genocides, elimination of their consequences should be put on the agenda of the international community. The civilized humanity should show ability to make common decisions,” President said.
“In parallel with steps towards reconsidering scientifically proved historical facts relevantly assessed by the international community, some studies try to artificially create their own history of genocide,” S. Sargsyan said.
According to him, “such falsified approaches are simplified interpretations of exactly formulated legal bases of the crime of genocide.”
“Endowing one’s own people with so-called genocides is neither patriotism nor diplomacy. Those reediting history and historical facts suppose they can force their distorted history upon the humanity. Concealing one’s own fault and crime is committing new crime,” Serzh Sargsyan said.
“This cynicism testifies that indeed, many either do not realize or do not want to realize the terrible price the humanity has paid,” President said in his remarks.
