Turkish historian to again visit Tsitsernakaberd memorial
“I don’t think Turkey can build good democracy after 95 years of denial of the Armenian Genocide,” Turkish scholar, historian Taner Akçam told reporters.
The U.S.-based historian has arrived in Yerevan for the International Conference entitled “The Crime of Genocide: Prevention, Condemnation and Elimination of Consequences.”
Taner Akçam said he will visit Tsitsernakaberd memorial of Armenian Genocide tomorrow, accompanied by other participants of the conference.
“I have twice visited Tsitsernakaberd, it will be my third visit to the memorial, and I think there is nothing bad about it.”
The historian expressed the hope that the Turkish authorities will recognize the Armenian Genocide.
“It is not just me who asks my country’s government to change. Confronting history seems to be something unreal but I am hopeful that day will come,” Taner Akçam stressed.
