T. Hofmann: “Cold case of genocide” can be heard in Hague
Armenia can submit the issue of the Armenian Genocide to the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Tessa Hofmann, Professor at the Free University of Berlin, stated addressing the International Conference entitled “The Crime of Genocide: Prevention, Condemnation and Elimination of Consequences” in Yerevan.
“Killing, assimilation, extermination – this is the description of Ottoman Empire’s actions,” she stressed adding that “cold cases of genocide” can be also submitted to the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
Speaking about the process of recognition of the Armenian Genocide in Germany Tessa Hofmann said that there have been three petitions on recognition of the Armenian Genocide in German Bundestag since 2005 but they gave no results.
“Now more than ever our government stays committed to its position categorically denying that what happened was genocide,” T. Hofmann said stressing that German government thinks Germany is “co-responsible” for the Armenian Genocide.
