Genocide Conference participants visit Tsitsernakaberd
Participants of the International Conference entitled “The Crime of Genocide: Prevention, Condemnation and Elimination of Consequences” visited Tsitsernakaberd memorial of Armenian Genocide this morning to pay tribute to victims of the Armenian Genocide. U.S.-based Turkish historian Taner Akçam was among the delegates visiting the Genocide memorial. He told reporters that it is his third visit to the memorial and he is hopeful after all the Turkish authorities will recognize the Armenian Genocide.
In return, UCLA Professor Richard Hovannisian said: “We hope one day Turkey’s President will also visit the memorial.”
The conference opened Tuesday, December 14. President Serzh Sargsyan and Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian addressed the conference opening.
The conference is dedicated to the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. It hosts scientists from over 20 countries, including such renowned genocide scholars as Yves Ternon, Leandro Despouy, Israel Charny, William Shabas, Taner Akçam, Tessa Hoffman, Frank Chalk.
