Lawsuit of Genocide heirs message to Turkey
This process was a message by some political circles of U.S. to Turkey that indeed, Turkey’s lands do not belong to Turkey, Turkologist Anush Hovhannisyan told a news conference speaking about the lawsuit of heirs of Armenian Genocide victims against two Turkish banks submitted to Los Angeles court.
According to the expert, this process is directly connected with the circumstance that the Turkish authorities did not allow the United States to use the Incirlik Air Base in the latest Iraq war.
Note that three heirs of Armenian Genocide victims submitted a lawsuit against the Central Bank of Turkey and Ziraat Bankasi to Los Angeles court. According to The Washington Post, the Genocide heirs claim USD 63m for the seized lands of their ancestors, including the territory of Incirlik Air Base.
From the early 1890s up to mid-1920s, the government of Ottoman Empire, later Kemalist Turkey was purposefully persecuting Armenians, resulting in mass extermination of Armenian population in the historical territory of the Armenian people. Cruel slaughter killed 1.5 million Armenians, deported around 500, 000. Armenian Diaspora communities were formed worldwide by survivors of the Armenian Genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire.
