No shift expected in Armenian-Turkish normalization in 2011
Turkologist Ruben Melkonyan at a press conference in Yerevan summed up year 2010 in terms of developments in the Armenian-Turkish normalization.
According to the expert, the second phase of Armenian-Turkish rapprochement following signing the Protocols was slow as it was time for concrete steps and solutions.
“Turkey lacks constructive actions and political will for rapprochement with Armenia. Turkey is not yet ready for establishment of relations with Armenia. And Armenia’s policy showed that we cannot establish the relations to the detriment of our interests,” Melkonyan said.
The Turkologist predicted that no shift is expected in the Armenian-Turkish normalization in 2011 due to the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Turkey, however Turkey will again intensify lobbying on the threshold of April 24.
Armenian-Turkish rapprochement may intensify only after Turkey’s parliamentary elections, according to the expert.
