Armenian-Turkish Protocols depreciated – Demoyan
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s decision to suspend the ratification of the Armenian-Turkish Protocols was predictable and was caused by Turkey’s policy, Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Hayk Demoyan told reporters in Yerevan.
“Both sides had expectations from the process, however, Turkey expected to get “bonuses”: it sought to achieve progress in NK issue, tried to convince the international community that the Armenian side accepted Turkey’s idea of establishing a commission on the historical dimension, to fix the current border with Armenia,” Demoyan said.
Turkey did not ratify the protocols since its expectations of “bonuses” did not come true, according to the expert.
In Demoyan’s words, the Armenian-Turkish normalization process is over and the Protocols are depreciated, certainly, because of Turkey’s policy.
Demoyan thinks that if the normalization process resumes, it can no longer proceed on the basis of the old Protocols.
“A new document should be put on the agenda,” Demoyan said stressing that the Armenian side acted correctly and competently in the process.
