Saakashvili was “close friend” of Richard Holbrook
Today Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has left for Washington to attend a Richard Holbrook commemoration event, Euronews reports quoting ITAR-TASS correspondent as saying Tuesday citing the Georgian Embassy in Washington.
“Saakashvili was a close friend of Richard Holbrook,” she said.
American diplomat Richard Holbrook died on December 13, 2010 in Washington at the age of 69. He previously served as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, U.S. ambassador to Germany, and as assistant secretary of State, both for Europe and for Asia.
Saakashvili stated his visit’s main goal is to attend the Richard Holbrook commemoration event. He said he will meet some officials in Washington but no official meetings are expected.
