Irish PM calls leadership confidence vote
Ireland Prime Minister Brian Cowen will not resign as head of the ruling Fianna Fail party.
Cowen will instead offer his colleagues the chance to vote on his leadership in a ballot on Wednesday, he said Monday, according to Reuters.
He told a news conference that a motion would be put to the party and "we will unite behind that decision".
A former finance minister, Cowen is the most unpopular Irish leader in modern times due to his handling of an economic crisis that forced Dublin to go cap in hand to the EU and the IMF for a bailout late last year.
