Armenia can make Genocide a precondition - expert
It was the first time Armenian President’s official speech gave such serious and grounded assessments to Turkey’s policy towards Armenia, Ruben Safrastyan, Director of Department of Turkish Studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies, Armenian National Academy of Sciences, told reporters in Yerevan commenting upon President Serzh Sargsyan’s state visit to Cyprus.
He stressed that in Cyprus, President Sargsyan described Turkey’s policy as “blackmail.”
According to Safrastyan, it is very important that in Cyprus, for the first time it was announced that Armenia has legal and moral rights to consider the issue of Armenian Genocide as a precondition for normalizing the relations with Turkey.
“We cannot rule out that one day Armenia can put forward the issue of Genocide as a precondition to Turkey, with moral and legal grounds,” expert said.
