9 films compete for foreign language Oscar
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced nine films that have advanced to the next round of voting in the Foreign Language Film category for the 83rd Academy Awards, ITAR-TASS reports.
Sixty six films had originally qualified, but the list has now been reduced to nine. The Academy will now narrow the list once more to five films that will go on to compete for the Oscar.
All nominees will be announced live on Tuesday, January 25th. The awards show will then be presented on Sunday, February 27th.
The Foreign Language nominees are Hors la Loi ("Outside the Law") – Algeria, Incendies – Canada, In a Better World – Denmark, Dogtooth – Greece, Confessions – Japan, Biutiful – Mexico, Life, above All - South Africa, Tambien la Lluvia ("Even the Rain") – Spain, Simple Simon – Sweden.
