Armenian Defense Ministry: Azeri authorities responsible
According to NKR Defense Army report, on January 20, 2011, 18.00pm, Azerbaijan’s army made a regular provocation, intensively firing at the Armenian position in the south contact line. The enemy was silenced by response fire. Soldier of NKR Defense Army Hovik Sukiasyan was killed by enemy fire. There are no reports about Azerbaijani army’s losses.
“This incident reconfirms that Azerbaijan’s authorities either do not control actions of their army on the front line or the authorities themselves organize the provocations. In both cases, Azerbaijan’s leadership is responsible,” Armenian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
“The Defense Ministry of the Republic of Armenia extends its deepest condolences to the relatives of Armenian soldier Hovik Sukiasyan who was killed by enemy fire,” the report said.
