“If we are offered bad conditions, it’s no use going to Baku”

Baku will host 2011 World Boxing Championships this September, which is a rating championship, that is, countries getting higher ratings will be able to have more participants in 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. The second rating championships will be held in Istanbul. Thus, Armenian boxers will have to overcome serous psychological problems this year to perform well and to get high ratings. And it would be wrong to say that thus the International and European Federations maintained the principle of providing equal conditions.

Touching upon this issue, Armenia’s Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Arthur Poghosyan told reporters: “We have not yet adopted a final decision whether to participate in Baku tournament or not. If the hosting country provides bad conditions, like the previous time, it’s no use going to Baku. Our decision will depend on the conditions and guarantees to be provided by the organizer of the championships for our delegation.”
