Turkey again second in number of complains to ECHR
Complaints to Strasbourg’s European Court of Human Rights rose by 7 per cent in 2010, the court’s president Jean-Paul Costa confirmed on January 27.
He said the total number of applications dealt with by court staff had increased by some 16%. Some 3,600 decisions regarding urgent interim measures on asylum and immigration issues represented an increase of 53% on the previous year.
Russia, Turkey, Romania are among the “leaders” in the number of complaints to ECHR.
According to 2010 data, Russia submitted 40, 295 complaints to ECHR, Turkey 15, 206, Romania 11, 950.
In 2009 most complaints were received from Russia, Turkey and Ukraine. Romania was the fourth.
