Literature contributes to recognition of Genocide in Turkey
The launching ceremony of Turkologist Ruben Melkonyan’s book titled “The Theme of Armenian Genocide in Modern Turkish Literature” took place in Yerevan today.
According to the author, the term “Armenian massacres” was first used in the Turkish literature in 1956.
Since 2004 the Turkish literature has been featuring memoirs of Genocide survivors, Melkonyan said.
“Modern Turkish literature is based on the memoirs of Armenians who were forced to adopt the Muslim religion during the Genocide,” the author noted.
He stressed that direct or indirect mention of the Armenian Genocide in Turkish literature contributes to recognition of the Genocide in Turkey.
“A Turkish reader said that he is just now beginning to understand the truth,” the Turkologist noted.
