Armenia to host over 20,000 tourists from Iran
Over 20,000 Iranian citizens are expected to arrive in Armenia in the second half of March to mark Novruz, the Persian New Year in our country, Mekhak Apresyan, Head of Tourism Department at the Ministry of Economy, told reporters.
According to him, the number of tourists from Iran increased 40 percent in 2010 compared to 2009. Over 120,000 Iranian citizens crossed the Armenian border in 2010 compared to 87,000 in 2009.
“70 percent of tourists visit Armenia with their families,” the official noted.
In return, expert Tigran Davtyan said that Novruz is celebrated by more than 300 million people worldwide. This holiday has been celebrated for at least 3,000 years.
