Levon Aronian beat Azerbaijan’s Vugar Gashimov in blindfold and rapid games in Round 5 at Amber Rapid and Blindfold Chess Tournament in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
Aronian leads the tournament with 4 points in both blindfold and rapid games. In blindfold games, he is 1 point ahead of Alexander Grischuk, Viswanathan Anand and Boris Gelfand taking the 2nd-4th places and in rapid games, he is 0.5 point ahead of Magnus Carlsen and Viswanathan Anand.
The Armenian chess player has scored 8 points and is 1.5 point ahead of world champion Anand with combined results. Carlsen has scored 6 points, Grischuk 5.5 points.
Aronian will play with Alexander Grischuk in Round 6 due today.
