B. Karapetyan: Azerbaijan makes another war threat
8,000 Armenians were killed in Shushi pogroms in 1920, 400 women were profaned by the askyars (Azerbaijani soldiers), and only a few managed to escape under the cover of thick fog, Head of the Shushi Charitable Foundation Bakur Karapetyan told reporters talking about the events that occurred 91 years ago today.
According to him, at 04:00am, 1,500 soldiers of the Azerbaijani regiment deployed in the Armenian block of Shushi attacked the residents of the Armenian block. 42,000 people lived in Shushi at that time, out of which, 23,000 were Armenians.
“In parallel with the pogroms in Shushi, Azerbaijani askyars also attacked 32 Armenian villages, killing off the whole population,” B. Karapetyan said.
In his words, currently Azerbaijan carries out a similar policy towards the Armenians.
“Shushi and Sumgait events are alike. The criminal hasn't yet been punished, moreover, currently Azerbaijan is making another war threat,” Karapetyan noted.
He called on all public and political organizations, the opposition and the authorities to unite in delivering a counterblow to the enemy.
