Disgraced Azerbaijani journalist beaten in Berlin
The organization of Azerbaijanis living in Europe (AYA) condemned the beating of Azerbaijani journalist-immigrant Fakhraddin Hajibeyli on March 18 in Berlin, AzerNews reports.
The statement of the organization reads that Hajibeyli was beaten during the celebration of Novruz holiday by the head of the public organization Azerbaijani House Tofig Garayev and his assistants. As a result, Hajibeyli’s two ribs were broken and he has a closed head injury.
Authors of the statement believe that the journalist was punished for a critical article titled "The Equation of the Diaspora" published in April 2010 in the Azadlyg newspaper.
In connection with the incident, Garayev has been brought to trial but the authors of the statement said that it is necessary to identify and punish those who had ordered the crime.
The statement also noted that the Azerbaijani House is a structure controlled by the Azerbaijani Embassy in Berlin.
