Squares of capital city to be controlled by video cameras
Cameras will be installed In 10 public places of the capital city till the end of the first semester of 2011, said Nerses Nazaryan major-general of the police of Yerevan city.
According to him the video cameras will mainly be installed in the squares; Republic Square, Square after Garegin Nzhdeh, Square after Charles Aznavour, in the territory around the Matenadaran and the crowded areas of the Mashtots avenue.
N. Nazaryan mentioned that installation of the cameras in the center is first of all conditioned by the lack of material means.The financial department has estimated that installation of the cameras in all areas of the city is costly.
“The positive side of the installation of the cameras will be discovering of the criminals who can escape because of the absence of policemen. The relation between the policemen and the citizens will be fixed too,” he said not mentioning how much the camera costs.
The head of the department mentioned that the cameras will shoot 24 hours and he cannot mention their exact number.
“The more video cameras we install the better,” he concluded.
