Obama’s statement one-sided, Turkish MFA says
The Turkish government voiced deep regret over Obama’s statement which paid tribute to the Armenians killed by Ottoman Turks after World War I, the Voice of America reported.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry criticized U.S. President Barack Obama’s statement saying it is one-sided and reads the history from a single perspective. According to the Ministry, Obama’s statement is caused by a domestic political game and further complicates the process of reconciliation with the past between Turkey and Armenia.
Note that in his statement Saturday Barack Obama described the events of 1915 as “horrific” noting that the legacy of the Armenian people is one of resiliency, determination, and triumph over those who sought to destroy them. However, breaking his word once again, Obama did not utter the word “genocide.”
