Passenger plane crashes in Argentina
A plane operated by regional airline Sol crashed with 22 people on board in Argentina's southern Patagonia region on Wednesday night, local television reported, according to Reuters.
There were no official reports of deaths or injuries. The Saab 340 turboprop can hold 30 to 36 people.
Local media said the plane went down in the province of Rio Negro, near the town of Prahuaniyeu.
Of the 22 on board Sol flight number 5428, 19 were passengers, including one person under the age of 21, and three were crew members, according to a statement issued by the company, which did not confirm that the plane had crashed.
It said that air traffic controllers lost contact with the flight after its pilot sent an emergency call at 8:50 p.m. local time.
Ambulances and firefighting units were sent to the scene of the crash, in a hard-to-reach desert area of Patagonia with few roads, local television reported. Aeronautic authorities had no immediate comment.
