Amnesty: 358 convicts released
The process of releasing convicts by amnesty granted on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Republic of Armenia Independence started at the Penitentiary Service of the Armenian Ministry of Justice on May 27, 2011. Term of convicts’ punishment is also reduced by amnesty, the press office of the Armenian Ministry of Justice Penitentiary Department reported.
358 convicts were released from the Ministry of Justice penitentiary institutions as of June 1, punishment term of 5 convicts was reduced.
The number of released convicts is given according to penitentiary institutions:
Nubarashen – 33
Erebuni – 84
Vardashen – 30; 1 reduction
Convicts’ Hospital – 23, 1 reduction
Yerevan Kentron – 0 (no convicts subject to parole)
Artik – 35
Vanadzor – 14
Sevan – 40
Hrazdan – 17
Abovyan – 1; 3 reductions
Goris – 11
Kosh – 70
The process of releasing convicts by amnesty continues. The press office of the Penitentiary Department will periodically provide information about the number of released convicts.
