Armenian Genocide issue trump card in Israel’s hand - expert
Expert at the Noravank Foundation, head of the Armenology Center, Aristakes Simavoryan at a news conference today touched upon the Armenian Genocide issue discussion at Israeli Knesset. The Knesset discussed the issue on May 18 and transferred it to the Education, Culture, and Sports Committee.
“Knesset decided wrong, the Armenian Genocide issue doesn’t deal with sport,” the expert said and added that earlier, this issue was torpedoed in the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee by Israeli Generals linked to Turkey.
According to Simavoryan, the Turkish lobby hindered discussion of the Armenian Genocide issue. Turkey is a significant factor in this issue, the Turkish-Israeli relations are the only obstacle to this issue.
“The head of the commission has no sympathy for Armenia, therefore this issue will be constantly postponed,” the expert stressed. “Holding a discussion on the Armenian Genocide, the Jews get rid of the stereotype.”
However, according to the expert, the Armenian Genocide issue is a trump card in Israel’s hand, a swinging cudgel that never strikes.
