Erdogan’s ruling party got 50% of votes
The Turkish ruling AK party has won the Turkish general election with nearly 50 percent of the vote.
It is the party’s third consecutive win, which has not been seen in Turkish politics since the 1960s.
AKP’s leader and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, “We are excited to gain one of every two votes in Turkey. We are excited to achieve a rare success in our democratic history by winning a mandate from our citizens for third term in office”.
He may however be disappointed with the result, as the AKP misses out on the 330 seats it would have needed to press for constitutional reforms it wants without consulting the other parties in parliament, the euronews reports.
