Frog to be Sevan’s brand in the future

Today the “Legal State” civil initiative had organized a meeting discussion entitled “Corruption is the enemy of our nation”. The first theme of the discussion was the nature protection problems the Lake Sevan faces.

The coordinator of the civil initiation Andreas Ghukasyan informed that the Lake Sevan is losing its value having huge economic and nature protection losses.

“Few years ago Sevan’s brand were trout and whitefish, today Sevan’s brand offered in the restaurants abroad is the crayfish. If no measures will be undertaken Sevan’s brand in the future will become the frog,” Andreas Ghukasyan mentioned and added that the damage caused to the lake is around one milliard dollars.

The coastal areas of the lake are being covered by 15-20 sm water every year.

The nature protectors claim that if Sevan’s water-level rises and no cleaning-works will be undertaken the lake will start wading. The representatives of the RA Nature Protection Ministry reassured that this year the cleaning-works in the lake will continue, but this time with new technologies.
