André Villas-Boas resigns from Porto
André Villas-Boas has resigned as Porto coach to become the next Chelsea manager. Once his €15m (£13.3m) release clause is paid the 33-year-old can officially succeed Carlo Ancelotti at Stamford Bridge.
Some reports in Portugal claimed that Villas-Boas would personally pay the €15m himself but this seems unlikely considering the enormity of the sum. While Villas-Boas may legally have had to trigger the clause, Roman Abramovich, the Chelsea owner, is likely to provide the money.
Villas-Boas, who was reportedly also on Internazionale's wanted list, would dramatically increase his salary with a move back to Chelsea, with reports suggesting as much as £5m per season is on offer, the Guardian reported.
