Armenian Church in Georgia gets status
The Georgian Parliament made changes in the Civil Code according to which 5 of the religious communities receive status of legal body, “Novosti Gruzia” reports.
The communities that get the status of legal body are the Armenian, Roman Catholic, Jewish, and Baptist churches and the Muslim community.
The oppositional Christian Democratic Faction was against the draft law.
“The Georgian church doesn’t have such status… We should understand whether Armenia and Azerbaijan are going to give such status to the Georgian church,” member of the faction Nikoloz Laliashvili stated.
According to the representatives of the Georgian authorities the role of the Georgian Orthodox Church does not weaken.
