Deauville statement was addressed to Baku – Nalbandian
The Deauville statement, which called for peace, was addressed to Azerbaijan, Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said, while addressing a meeting at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London.
While Azerbaijan, according to the Minister, responded with war threat, military parade, reports on increase of its military expenditure, territorial claims to Armenia.
The peace document cannot be signed without Nagorno-Karabakh’s participation, Nalbandian stressed.
According to him, Baku misleads its own people by claiming that the Helsinki Final Act reads that conflicts must be resolved within the framework of territorial integrity.
“Importantly, the Deauville statement stresses inadmissibility of preservation of the status quo. The sides must carry out the three principles and six provisions the Co-chairs mention in their statements. There is an important point Baku tries to evade. It is the right of the Nagorno-Karabakh people to determine final status through the expression of will having legal force,” the Minister said.
