Libyan rebels celebrate their victory in Tripoli
“A convoy of Libyan rebels has rolled into central Tripoli past celebrating crowds after a day of heavy fighting in and around the capital.
Crowds cheered them, waving flags and firing salutes. Green Square has been resounding with celebrations
The rebels reportedly captured Muammar Gaddafi's son Saif al-Islam as the leader himself vowed to fight on,” the BBC reports.
International Criminal Court prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo said he had been informed of the arrest.
The court has indicted Saif for torturing and killing civilians. Another of Col Gaddafi's sons, Muhammad, was also detained, according to rebel sources.
U.S. President Barack Obama said on Sunday Muammar Gaddafi's rule was showing signs of collapse, “Muammar Qaddafi and his regime need to recognize that their rule has come to an end,” Obama said in a statement. “Qaddafi needs to acknowledge the reality that he no longer controls Libya. He needs to relinquish power once and for all.”
